Fashion Carnival (JFC) in Jember
Regency, East Java Province.Exactly in 2003, the first JFC
began to show the city of Jember to the world’s fashion spotlight. After a
decade of persistent efforts, with a full financial support from the local
sponsors, organization and the community, the carnival has come to a level of
global attention and vivid excitement. Previously, the longest outdoor catwalk
was only a mile long in Copenhagen. Recently hailed as the world’s longest
catwalk set up on a staggering 3.6-kilometer street at the city’s central park,
JFC attracted some 500 registered photographers and hundreds
of unregistered ones from around the nation and overseas. Around 600
participants, mostly students from around the city, were strikingly put into
marvelous costumes. Instantly, this third largest city in East Java became
exceedingly Lively, bringing joyous moments to the entire residents and local
businesses.
With ten different costume themes from
the past nine bests and butterflies theme in this particular carnival, in
addition to the creativity of the people, the runway was amazing. Spectators
did not mind the scorching sun as the event was commenced in the afternoon. The
carefully planned spectators’ fences on the road sides finally failed
preventing the curious residents and amateur photographers from getting so
close to the models. This highly spirited moment with extraordinary enthusiasm
is predicted to be another thriving success.
